Corey Reynolds Tackles Mike's Belief & Sara Tomko on Asta/Joseph: "Exciting in the Bedroom"
Patience, Colorado, is getting weirder, but maybe the residents just need to embrace the weirdness?

This story contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 2, "The Lonely Man."
In this week's new episode of Resident Alien, "The Lonely Man," Asta (Sara Tomko) gets her freak on with the neediest Grey alien-human hybrid on Earth, Joseph (Enver Gjokaj). And Sheriff Mike ( Corey Reynolds) is finally cornered when his abject rejection of the existence of aliens lurking within Patience, Colorado, no longer fits the narrative. Especially when the Mantid (voiced by Clancy Brown) is out there feeding on innocent locals and Mike is literally holding a bag of goo, pointing to something very much not human.

In our latest USA Insider post-mortem for the season, Tomko and Reynolds spoke to us about the big changes facing their characters and what it all means for their growth as the season continues.
Sara Tomko says Asta is excited to look out for herself a little more this season
It's a full-on love fest for Joseph now that he's spending lots of "quality time" with Asta. While he's a smitten kitten, Tomko said that Asta is all about keeping things with this Golden Retriever of Grey aliens as casual as possible.
"I think Asta is excited at the prospect of just having a relationship again that makes her feel good," Tomko said. "I think being with a hybrid alien is intriguing and quite exciting in the bedroom. She has been without love for a while, so it's exciting for her. And I do think because of his human aspect, she feels like she can bond a little bit easier with him. Whereas when Harry is full alien, she loves him, but just as a friend. I think it's because they're so different and yet so similar, that it's more of a real kinship in family, you know. But with Joseph, it feels a little bit more flirty."

As for her other favorite person on Earth, bestie D'arcy Bloom (Alice Wetterlund), this episode finds the women having some frank discussions about why D'arcy is holding onto Kate's (Meredith Garretson) rescued baby so tightly. After several seasons of secrets between them, they're both mostly on the same page for the first time in a long time.
"I think it makes us feel bonded more after this long friendship that we've had," she said of their joint knowledge of Harry's real self and their adventure on the Moon. "We have this new thing that we can bond over. And she feels like she can take the onus a little bit of helping save the world by saving this baby and helping keep it safe and protected. I think there's actually a beautiful moment where Asta can take a step back and look at her friend and say, 'Look how far she's come. I'm so proud of her. She's handling herself so well. I think I'm going to be able to start maybe thinking about myself now for the first time,' because Asta is such a caretaker."
Corey Reynolds says Sheriff Mike really is on the road to acceptance
Big things are happening for Sheriff Mike, too, as he and Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowen) investigate the local beheadings. When all the evidence is pointing to something decidedly not human... he can only hold onto his disbelief for so long.
"I think Mike is set in what he believes, and it takes a lot of evidence to change someone who's so set in their ways," Reynolds mused. "However, I think from a practical perspective, Mike is too smart to be able to continuously ignore all of these anomalies. It's at some point here, if it's walking like a duck, quacking like a duck, has feathers, and is holding a sign and says, 'Hey, bro, I'm a duck,' then it's a duck. And I think he finally has come to accept how wrong he got it."
Season 4 of Resident Alien drops new episodes on Fridays on USA Network and SYFY. All episodes will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock one week after they air.
